Club CEO makes major revelation on Tottenham-linked striker’s future

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that the Serie A club will officially announce Lautaro Martinez’s contract extension within the next ten days.

Tottenham were heavily linked with a move for Martinez during the summer transfer window but ultimately failed to lure the forward away from Inter.

Some sources even suggested at the time that Spurs had initially agreed on a €60m (£50.9m) fee for Martinez but the deal fell through following Romelu Lukaku’s move to Chelsea, with Inter no longer needing the funds from the Argentine’s sale.

Some recent reports from Italy have suggested that the Nerrazuri might cash in on the likes of Martinez in January, with the club still needing to find around £85m to balance the books.

However, Marotta has now confirmed that Martinez is not among the players who will be sold as the club see the 24-year-old as an important part of their plans.

The Inter CEO told La Gazzetta dello Sport: “We are going to announce his (Martinez’s) extension within ten days.

“He is the future of Inter and we want to keep him at the club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Martinez was always going to be a long-shot for Spurs given that we do not have Champions League football to offer and this revelation from Moratta seems to be the final nail in the coffin in terms of Tottenham’s pursuit of the Argentine.

With Kane now looking like he is set to stay at least until the end of the season, I would not be surprised if Spurs went for wide-attacker in Traore’s mould in January rather than a goalscorer like Martinez or centre-forward like Vlahovic.
