Club chief claims he hopes to complete deal for Spurs star ‘as soon as possible’

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen is on the verge of joining Inter Milan in a £17 million deal according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Eriksen, whose contract with Spurs runs at the end of the season, has been linked heavily with a move to Inter over the past few weeks.

The 27-year-old failed to make the matchday squad for the FA Cup clash against Southampton on Saturday which furthered fueled speculation that he is on his way out of Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho hinted after the match that he was far from happy with the way Inter have handled the negotiations and delayed it until so late in the window (BBC Sport).

Inter CEO Beppe Marrota has now confirmed that the club have been locked in negotiations for the former Ajax man for some time and indicated that he is optimistic that Eriksen will link up with the club before the close of the transfer window.

Marrota is quoted by DAZN (as relayed by Football Italia) as saying, “We won’t hide, you all know we’ve been negotiating with Tottenham for some time. His contract is due to expire on June 30, so the only rights we are discussing are for those six months.

“We are optimistic and hope the deal can be finalised as soon as possible, especially as the transfer window closes on Friday.”

I predicted right at the start of the transfer window that the Eriksen to Inter sage could drag along until deadline day. Unfortunately, that is exactly how things have turned out leaving the club little time to find a replacement. Hopefully, Giovani Lo Celso gets more time in the second half of the season and continues his improved run of form.
