Club chief confirms Spurs target will ‘definitely move to a top European club’ this summer

Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin has admitted that he has been speaking to various big clubs about the sale of rumoured Tottenham target Georgiy Sudakov but warned that the midfielder would not be sold at a discount.

Sudakov has emerged as one of the best young talents in the Ukrainian top flight over the last couple of years and the youngster is now being linked with some of the biggest leagues in Europe.

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed in his column on CaughtOffside a couple of days ago that both Tottenham and Arsenal have their eye on the 21-year-old.

He asserted that the Lilywhites have scouted the Ukraine international extensively this season and see him as a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.

Georgiy Sudakov will transfer this summer amid Spurs links

Palkin has now confirmed that a move away from Shakhtar is very much on the cards for Sudakov this summer.

When asked about the young midfielder’s future, he told The Standard: “This summer window, he has a big chance to move to some big clubs. We have had some contacts with big clubs and some are not negotiating with us directly but are getting a feel for the summer environment.

“He will definitely move to a top European club this summer. When I was at Chelsea versus Everton on Monday, many people asked me about Sudakov.”

Palkin revealed that Napoli’s €40m (£34.2m) offer for Sudakov had been turned down in January and insisted that it would take an offer over €50m (£42.8m) to sign the player this summer.

The Shakhtar chief continued: “I told Napoli in January they could have him for €50m plus bonuses, and they offered €40m, but I said to them to close the deal now or lose this unique chance. Now, it will not be €50m.

They would have no chance to do that now because we have many more clubs looking.

“The most interest will come from English clubs. For me, he will become one of the best midfielders in Europe and the world. We don’t want clubs to seek discounts because we are at war. An example was for Mudryk. We are quite strong.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Palkin will be too keen to do business with Tottenham, given that the North London club have refused to give Shakhtar a fee for Manor Solomon despite the Ukrainian club’s repeated requests.
