Club director admits star is ‘in demand’ this summer amid Tottenham links

RB Leipzig director of football Rouven Schroder has confessed that rumoured Tottenham target Dani Olmo is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

Olmo has been a consistent performer for Leipzig since arriving at the club in 2020 and the attacking midfielder has also become an increasingly important player for the Spanish national side over the last couple of years.

The 25-year-old, who is also capable of operating as a winger, is expected to play a key part in La Roja’s Euros campaign in Germany, but he could also have a busy summer in more ways than one as he is being heavily linked with a move away from the Red Bull Arena.

Last week, The Daily Mail stated that Tottenham are one of a handful of top clubs who are ‘maintaining a watching brief’ on the midfielder ahead of the summer.

Just a few days ago, The print edition of Bild (as relayed by Sport Witness) suggested that Spurs could face competition from the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid for the Leipzig star, who is said to have a release clause of €60m (£51.2m) on his contract.

Dani Olmo is a popular target amid Spurs links

Schroder has now confirmed that Olmo is attracting interest from several clubs but he hinted that the Bundesliga side will not let him go without a fight.

When asked about the Spainiard’s future, the Leipzig director told Sky Austria: “He hasn’t just been here and passing through for six months, he’s been playing for us for four years now. On the other hand, it is clear that different players like Dani are of course in demand everywhere.”

In cases like the Olmo one, there is usually no smoke without fire. The increasing speculation over his future suggests that his agent has intimated to interested clubs that his client is ready for a new challenge this summer.

I fully expect the 25-year-old to leave the Red Bull Arena at the end of this season but where he will end up is anyone’s guess. I would not be surprised if he is prioritising a return to Spain.
