Club director claims Spurs-linked goalkeeper could leave for £43.3m

Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has revealed that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Andre Onana could be sold this summer if the Dutch club’s asking price is met.

With Hugo Lloris having just over twelve months left to run on his contract, there have been reports that the Frenchman could be on his way back to Ligue 1 this summer.

Spurs have been linked with a number of goalkeepers over the past couple of months, with Onana being one of the names touted as a potential replacement for Lloris.

The Cameroonian, who is is currently serving a 12-month ban from the game for a doping violation, is reported to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

Overmars told ESPN last month that talks between Ajax and Onana regarding a new contract had hit a roadblock after the goalkeeper refused to extend his deal with the Amsterdam outfit.

The Ajax director has now given his clearest indication yet that the 25-year-old is for sale this summer.

He told Dutch publication NOS: “For €50m (£43.3m), there is a good chance that Onana will leave next summer.”

With Onana having just 12 months left to run on his contract, there is no way any club around Europe would be willing to pay upwards of £40m for him under the current economic climate. Ajax will likely lower their valuation in the final few weeks of the transfer window as they would not want to risk the goalkeeper running his contract down and leaving on a free transfer in 2022.
