Club director confirms defender wanted by Spurs will be available on a free transfer

Paris Saint-Germain director, Leonardo Araujo, has confirmed that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Thiago Silva, will leave the club this summer when his contract runs out.

Silva is arguably one of PSG’s best-ever signings as the centre-half has remained one of the first names on the team sheet for the last eight seasons since arriving from AC Milan in the summer of 2012.

The Brazilian, who has clocked up more than 300 appearances for the French giants, has been a leader at the back for the club over the years but it looks as if he may have already played his final game for Les Parisiens.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has taken to social media to share a quote from the PSG chief on the futures of Silva and striker Edinson Cavani.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly said to be interested in signing the central defender on a free transfer this summer, according to Bleacher Report.

However, it is Everton who are seemingly the front runners for the 35-year-old, with Le10Sport suggesting that Carlo Ancelotti has already spoken to the PSG star about the possibility of moving to Goodison Park.

Silva might be past his best at 35 years of age but it was worth noting that he has played fairly regularly for PSG until this season. However, there are question marks over whether a move to the Premier League would be ideal for the Brazilian at this stage of his career. Besides, it would not really make sense for Spurs to refuse to offer Jan Vertonghen a two-year deal, only to offer a similar contract to a 35-year-old Silva.
