Club director insists he is ‘relaxed’ about contract of rumoured Spurs target

VfB Stuttgart director of football Sven Mislintat has insisted that the Bundesliga club are relaxed about the future of rumoured Tottenham target Sasa Kalajdzic despite the striker’s contract running out in 2023.

Kalajdzic enjoyed a prolific 2020/21 season for Stuttgart, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old was subsequently linked with a move to Tottenham last summer (Eurosport) but ended up staying put in Southwest Germany.

The Austrian international has endured a difficult season this time out at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, having missed a big chunk of the campaign through injury (Transfermarkt).

However, German news outlet Kicker reported last week that the centre-forward remains on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report suggested that Kalajdzic’s exit from the Bundesliga club is ‘apparently imminent’ at the end of the season.

However, Mislintat has now insisted that the striker’s future is not a matter of concern for the club as things stand.

When asked about Kalajdzic’s contract situation, the Stuttgart director said (via Kicker): “Basically, he still has a contract. That means we’re a lot more relaxed.

“Sasa said very clearly that he first wanted to get healthy and come onto the pitch before we made that concrete.”

I would expect Spurs to go for a backup to Kane in the summer, given that Conte has made it clear that a focal point up front is vital for his formation.

The only way around that is to potentially sign a player like Lautaro Martinez, who can partner Kane and Son upfront but could also cover for the England captain in case he gets injured or needs a rest.
