Club director rules out selling forward Spurs reportedly want in January

Bari sporting director Ciro Polit has said that rumoured Tottenham target Walid Cheddira will stay at the club until the summer.

Cheddira has a prolific since making a permanent switch to Bari in the summer, with the forward having scored nine times and provided five assists in 12 appearances in the Italian second-tier this season (Transfermarkt).

Although Morocco had a dream run to the semi-finals at the World Cup, the forward did not get too many minutes under his belt in Qatar, making just two appearances as a substitute for the North African side.

Serie B News reported back in October that Chaddira’s performances in the Italian second tier had caught Tottenham’s attention ahead of the January transfer window.

Spurs are not the only clubs thought to be eyeing the 24-year-old, with  Gianluca di Marzio revealing earlier this month that Nottingham Forest could also make a move for the prolific forward in January.

The journalist revealed that it would take an offer of just around €6m-€7m (£5.1m-£6m) to snap up the Moroccan international.

However, Polit has now declared that Bari’s star striker will be staying at Stadio San Nicola until the summer.

When asked about the speculation over the futures of Cheddira and goalkeeper Elia Caprile, he told Tuttomercatoweb: “Unless something that cannot be renounced happens, they are two Bari players until June.”

Cheddira does not fit the profile of attacker Tottenham’s need since the Moroccan prefers playing through the middle. Additionally, Conte is likely to be eyeing a player of a higher calibre than the 24-year-old, who is not proven at the highest level.
