Club director rules out Spurs move for Brazilian starlet

Corinthians’ football director, Roberto de Andrade has claimed that there is no truth to the rumours about Tottenham’s interest in teenage sensation Rodrigo Varanda.

Varanda is yet to live up to his full potential with Corinthians but the youngster is considered to be one of the most talented to come through the club’s academy in recent years.

ESPN Brasil previously claimed that Tottenham had made an approach for the 18-year-old while The Sun even suggested that the North Londoners could strike an £8.5m deal for the forward.

The youngster’s contract with Corinthians runs out this year and he is allowed to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club.

However, Jorge Nicola has now asked the Brazilian club’s director, De Andrade, about Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Varanda.

De Andrade responded on the journalist’s YouTube channel (as relayed by Sport Witness): “There’s nothing. Small talk”.

Sport Witness go on to explain that the speculation about Tottenham’s interest could have been fed to the press by Varanda’s representatives in order to help the forward’s case while negotiating a new contract.
