Club dreaming of re-signing Tottenham star despite huge contract development

An experienced Tottenham star, who has been a regular in the starting eleven under Thomas Frank, is being targeted by the club where he first made his name.

Just like every manager, Thomas Frank clearly has his favourites at Tottenham, with the Dane trusting some of his senior men to play nearly every game despite many criticising his selections.

The best example is Frank’s continued backing of the Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha double pivot in midfield, which has undoubtedly made Spurs much more solid defensively.

However, even though Bentancur only signed a new contract with Spurs earlier this month, he has emerged as a target for his former club.

Boca Juniors want to sign Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur

According to a report in El Intransigente, Boca Juniors have set their sights on bringing Bentancur back to the club.

Bentancur graduated from the Argentine club’s academy and spent two years with their first team before moving to Juventus in 2017.

He spent nearly four and a half years with the Old Lady before Antonio Conte brought him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in January of 2022.

The Argentine season ends in December, and Boca are keen to add to strengthen their midfield in the off-season, with the club having the Tottenham man on their three-man midfield shortlist.

Boca president views Bentancur as ‘dream’ signing

El Intransigente explain that re-signing Bentancur is the ‘big dream’ of Boca president, Juan Roman Riquelme, who is a fan of the 28-year-old.

It is alleged that Riquelme views Bentancur as the ideal man to partner alongside Leandro Paredes at the Buenos Aires giants next season.

The outlet adds that the Boca president is aware that signing the Tottenham man would be ‘practically impossible’, given his recent new contract, but he is not prepared to give up on his dream just yet.
