Club owner speaks out on future of reported Spurs target – Says his head could be turned

Lille owner Gerard Lopez has revealed his intention to hang on to striker Victor Osimhen, who has been linked heavily with a move to Spurs of late.

French publication Jeunes Footeux reported back in December that Jose Mourinho was keen on landing Osimhen.

A report in TEAMtalk even claimed that Spurs were in pole position ahead of the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea to land the 19-year-old, owing to Mourinho’s warm relationship with Lille’s sporting director Luis Campos.

However, a move for the striker didn’t materialise in January and a report in Le10Sport earlier this month revealed that Real Madrid and Barcelona could enter the race for the Nigerian international in the summer.

Osimhen is reportedly valued at around €35 million by the Ligue 1 club.

Lopez has now revealed that Lille will do their best to hold onto the teenager beyond the summer, but admitted that some clubs could turn the youngster’s head by offering him a big pay rise.

Speaking to Calcio Mercato, Lopez said: “Our desire is to have him with us also in the next season.

“There are factors that cannot be controlled, such as the fact that a large club can present itself with a salary offer six times higher than it is today. But sometimes it may be better to wait.”

I personally think bringing in a young striker with potential to improve like Osimhen would be the way to go in the summer as opposed to signing an experienced forward who won’t like playing second fiddle to Kane. The only worry with that is that singing another young forward could adversely impact Trop Parrott’s development.
