Club president admits reported Spurs target ‘will be able to leave’ in January

Lille president Olivier Letang has admitted that Renato Sanches, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, will be able to leave in January if a suitable offer comes in.

Sanches was thought of as one of the best young midfield talents in the world during his Bayern Munich days but he has not quite managed to live up to his potential yet.

However, the midfielder enjoyed a terrific campaign for Lille last time out, playing a key role in their Ligue 1 title win while also being one of the few shining lights in Portugal’s European Championships campaign during the summer.

Le10Sport reported during the summer transfer window that Spurs were one of the clubs who held a strong interest in the 24-year-old but it was revealed that the Lilywhites could face competition from Arsenal and Barcelona for the player.

Sanches’ contract with the reigning Ligue 1 champions runs out in January 2023, and Letang has now opened the door for the midfielder to leave the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

He told BFM Lille (as relayed by FourFourTwo): “I have already discussed this with him.

“If an offer from a big club arrives, Renato will be able to leave. We will see what will happen.”

While I do believe Tottenham could do with another central midfielder, I am not sure Sanches is the answer. While he is clearly talented, he has not been able to perform consistently over recent years. If I were Paratici, I would be doing everything possible to get Kessie, even though that deal might be very difficult to pull off.
