Club president insists Tottenham-linked striker ‘wants to stay’ this summer

Rennes executive president Olivier Cloarec has claimed that rumoured Tottenham target Martin Terrier wants to stay at the club.

According to reports, Antonio Conte wants to sign a versatile forward who can play across the frontline this summer (The Telegraph).

The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak, and Darwin Nunzez are said to be among the names on the North London club’s radar (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

Terrier is also thought to be on Spurs’ wishlist, with Foot Mercato reporting last month that Spurs are ‘very fond’ of the 25-year-old and have already sent a ‘proposal’ to sign him this summer.

The versatile forward has had a break season, managing 21 goals and seven assists across all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign (Transfermarkt).

CalcioMercato reported a couple of weeks ago that Rennes value the forward at around €40m (£34.3m).

However, Cloarec has now insisted that Terrier will not leave Roazhon Park this summer under any circumstances.

The Rennes president told TVR: “Today, there is not even a Martin Terrier situation. He wants to stay at Stade Rennais and we are very happy with him. We want to keep him, so there is no subject (to discuss).”

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite Cloarec’s bullish assertion, Terrier certainly has a price as Rennes cannot afford to turn down a big offer for the 25-year-old. However, I am not sure the Frenchman is of the calibre that Spurs need, even as a squad option. I expect Conte to pursue a player like Richarlison, who is proven in the Premier League.
