Club president reveals plenty of interest in striker rumoured to be on Spurs’ radar

Rennes president, Nicolas Holveck has confirmed that there are plenty of clubs interested in signing rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target M’Baye Niang this summer.

The Senegal international enjoyed a fantastic season this year, netting fifteen goals in all competitions before the campaign ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic (tranfermarkt.com).

L’Equipe (via GFFN) reported at the start of this month that Tottenham were interested in signing Niang this summer, while Marseille were also said to be keen on securing the 25-year-old’s signature (Le Parisian).

Additionally, Qatari giants, Al-Duhail have also been named as potential suitors for the striker (Foot Mercato).

Holveck has now confirmed the reports that several clubs are interested in the Rennes star’s services but insisted that the Ligue 1 side are yet to receive a formal bid. He also denied suggestions that the striker is Marseille bound.

Speaking to Foot Mercato (as translated by Goal), the Rennes president said: “M’Baye was on the recovery. We received a lot of expression of interest, but no offers.

“No agreement as I have heard on some platforms, with Marseille in particular. We didn’t even get a phone call from Marseille.

“M’Baye is here today. He has expressed his wish to develop under different skies, but not as vehemently as the press reported it.”

The question mark, as always, is whether Niang would be willing to come to Spurs knowing that he is going to be on the bench more often than not. With Jose unlikely to play two up front, unless we are chasing games, any striker who we are interested in is likely to know that he is going to be a plan B unless Kane in injured.
