Club president rules out sale of striker linked with Spurs

Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has stated in no uncertain terms that Moussa Dembele will not be leaving the club this month.

Dembele has been in sensational form in Ligue 1 this season having netted eleven goals in nineteen league appearances for Lyon so far this campaign (transfermarkt).

Goal.com reported a few days ago that Spurs were considering making an offer for the 23-year-old striker as they seek to find a replacement for the injured Harry Kane, who is not expected to be back in action until April.

Chelsea have reportedly already had a £34 million bid for Dembele rejected this month (Sky Sports).

Lyon put out an official statement a few days ago in response to the speculation linking the striker with a move away from Groupama Stadium. They insisted that Dembele will not be going anywhere for the foreseeable future.

Now, Aulas has reiterated that the French international’s future lies at Lyon.

Speaking to RMC Sport, the Lyon supremo said, “We have not changed our minds. We already made this issue clear in August. Moussa is an excellent player. A player who we need.

“We are taking explicit measures in our recruitment to not bring someone in who will compete for his position. It is not a question of money. Moussa will be with us.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Like Daniel Levy, Jean-Michel Aulas has a reputation for being a tough negotiator and he rarely loses players he doesn’t want to. While we seem to have a good relationship with Lyon, it is clear that Dembele isn’t being sold this month. If we can’t get the ideal striker we want, signing an experienced centre forward on loan could potentially be the best way to go.
