Club put off by ‘very negative reports’ over Tottenham star’s personality

A weeks or so ago, everything looked set for Christian Eriksen to make a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

After the playmaker told the Danish press that he desired a new challenge and a step up away from Tottenham, his future looked all but sealed (Ekstra Bladet).

However, the latest developments have now revealed that Real Madrid may not even want the Danish international.

Some reports state that Zinedine Zidane has his heart set on Paul Pogba as his main midfield addition in the summer rebuild (Metro).

This has left the Tottenham-Eriksen situation in somewhat of a limbo, with no one quite sure if the midfield man is leaving or signing a new contract.

The latest report out of L’Equipe states that Pogba is the only option interesting Zidane, which has come as a surprise even to the Man United player.

However, what is even more surprising is that the French media outlet claim Real Madrid have recently received ‘very negative reports’ regarding Eriksen’s personality, implying this may have put them off.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I’m not quite sure what L’Equipe mean by this. Eriksen has always come across as a level-headed and nice character in the Tottenham dressing room, so I’m not sure what kind of personality clash there could be in that respect. Either way, if they don’t want him, I want him signed to a new deal ASAP so we can put this saga behind us.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I agree. We must get Eriksen signed up now and put an end to this saga, in order for him to get back to his best with us again, next season. We’d never find someone so influential in the final third for less than £100m, plus we’d have to pay that player far more than Eriksen would probably accept re any new deal.
No. The key for us is to keep our best players, and, this summer, add to them by 3 or 4.
Someone to back up Eriksen in the the midfield playmaking role, someone to back up Kane in the striker role, someone to compete with Trippier at right back (Aurier should leave, and KWP is still not ready), and someone to strengthen central/defensive midfield, and keep Winks/Dier on their toes. Wanyama and Llorente should go too, but the rest of the squad depth should ensure we can improve in the PL this season, and (who knows?) in the CL too. Perhaps a League Cup or FA Cup might also finally come our way.

  2. Eriksen should have kept his mouth shut in the first place as had done throughout the season. I bet he’s regretting his momentary lapse now. Also of interest, his big mouth agent has kept a rather low profile all of a sudden hasn’t he. I feel some sort of backlash is probably going to come Eriksen way if he has to eat humble pie in the end.

  3. I feel that the negative reports on his personality maybe down to his actions on the pitch as anyone who watches spurs regularly will be aware that eriksen pulls out of every 50-50 challenge and never seems prepared to put his body on the line perhaps these reports are a reflection of this. Im a spurs season ticket holder and will quite happily send his cowardly arse to madrid or any other team prepared to take him!

  4. So Spurs are not good enough if Real wants Eriksen.
Well we don’t want players not 100% committed to the club
His mind has been in Spain for ages and he should now move on
