Club VP claims no offers have arrived for star linked with Spurs, Chelsea, and Arsenal

Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz has said that the Brazilian club are not worried about the possibility of rumoured Tottenham target Giorgian de Arrascaeta leaving the club in January.

De Arrascaeta has been one of the standout players in Brazilian football this season, with the attacking midfielder registering 13 goal contributions in 24 league appearances as well as another six goal contributions in 11 appearances in the Copa Libertadores (Transfermarkt).

The 28-year-old shone for Uruguay at the World Cup, netting both goals in their 2-0 win over Ghana, which ended up being the South American side’s only win in the competition as they crashed out in the group stages.

Football.London reported last week that De Arrascaeta had caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, with Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal named as potential destinations for the midfielder.

However, Braz has now insisted that Flamengo have no intention of letting the Uruguayan leave and that the club have not received any offers for the player so far.

He told Paparazzi Rubro-Negro (as relayed by Netfla): “Absolutely nothing has arrived. Arrascaeta has a four-year contract with us, he renewed it at the beginning of the year, we are very happy with him.

“He’s an exceptional player and person. We’ve had a long journey to renew him, but that’s already behind us.

“So far, we’ve had absolutely nothing. It’s not a concern of Flamengo. The release clause is very high, we don’t want to sell Arrascaeta and we never had a proposal.”

This is likely one of many transfer rumours that have arisen purely due to the player’s impressive showing in the World Cup. I doubt any big Premier League club are seriously considering a move for De Arrascaeta. The midfielder does not have much room for development, given that he is 28 years of age.
