“Coaching there would be impossible” – Pochettino rules out future switch

Mauricio Pochettino has once again insisted that he will never manage Barcelona in the future.

Tottenham Hotspur face the Catalan giants in the Champions League tomorrow night at Wembley. Pochettino, who featured for near neighbours Espanyol during his playing career and also managed the side has ruled out any potential of being at the helm at the Nou Camp in loyalty to his former employer.

Pochettino’s side are looking to register their first points of their European campaign after suffering a disappointing late loss to Inter Milan at the San Siro in the opening match.

He also singled out Barcelona superstar and compatriot Lionel Messi for praise by describing him as the best player in the world, ahead of the likes of rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

He told Marca: ‘[Facing Barca] motivates me, being an Espanyol fan and living for so many years in Barcelona,’

”It is more than understood [that I will never take over] … My path and that of Barcelona are different, opposite directions. Coaching there would be impossible.’

‘Winning a game is always nice and when you win against Barcelona, even more so, because that would mean something important for us,’ added Pochettino.

‘For me, (Lionel) Messi is still the No 1 (player in the world) and will be until he retires.’
