Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to work on a deal for Cody Gakpo despite bolstering their forward line with the additions of Man City pair Savinho and Omar Marmoush.

Spurs are looking to build a completely new front three by the time the window slams shut, with the club keen to add another winger to their squad after signing Savinho and Marmoush.

Their top target is Gakpo, who has already spoken with Roberto De Zerbi and is keen on making the move to North London.

However, the 27-year-old started Liverpool’s opening game of the season at St James’ Park and opened the scoring for the Reds with a brilliant long-range strike.

The worry at Spurs would be that Andoni Iraola will be tempted to keep Gakpo after his display on Sunday, but Tottenham fans do not need to panic yet.

Tottenham’s move for Cody Gakpo could be completed in ‘next few days’

Fabrizio Romano, who has maintained since the start of the summer that Tottenham want two wingers and a striker, has now revealed that the Lilywhites continue to work on a deal for the Liverpool man.

The journalist explained that agreeing personal terms with Gakpo is not expected to be an issue for Spurs and added that the North Londoners could sink a defining blow in the race for the forward over the next few days.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Let me finish by telling you, don’t forget Cody Gakpo. Don’t forget Cody Gakpo, because Savinho is going to Tottenham today in London for medical tests and contract signing.

“Omar Marmoush is expected to go to Tottenham as a centre striker, and he’s a target that is going to probably happen in the next few days, as I told you. But I told you always, right winger, left winger, centre striker. This was what I told you about Tottenham. And for the left winger, the name remains Cody Gakpo.

“Tottenham are working on it. Tottenham are working on the player side. Player terms are not an issue. And then Tottenham remain absolutely on it, on the club side with Liverpool. So Gakpo, Liverpool could be over in the next few days if the total fee can be agreed. Watch out for that one until the end.”

Andoni Iraola is a fan of Gakpo

However, David Ornstein has struck a slightly different tone on the 27-year-old, revealing that Iraola is a fan of the Netherlands international.

He added that any deal to take Gakpo to Spurs could depend on Liverpool getting a deal for Bradley Barcola over the line, which is being held up at the moment due to the difference in the valuations of the Reds and PSG.

The Athletic journalist told TNT Sports: “Liverpool are prioritising [Barcola], there’s no doubt about it. If they can get him from PSG, then I think we’ll see Gakpo leave. If they don’t get him in from PSG, I think they’ll happily keep Gakpo. [Andoni] Iraola really likes him. It’ll all come down to the fee with PSG, and the gap is too big at the moment.”
