‘Come back here’ – Conte hints at interest in Christian Eriksen Tottenham return

Antonio Conte has seemingly hinted that he would be interested in a Christian Eriksen return to Tottenham if the Denmark international was able to get back up to speed in the Premier League.

Eriksen is now working towards a return to competitive football after he suffered a cardiac arrest at EURO 2020.

Unfortunately, regulations in Serie A forbid Eriksen from playing in Italy due to the implantable cardioverter-defibrillator he had fitted. Therefore, Inter Milan terminated the midfielder’s contract in the summer by mutual consent (Guardian).

However, Eriksen completed a surprise return to the Premier League on deadline day in January when Brentford came knocking with a six-month contract.

When asked about Eriksen’s move to Brentford this week, Conte revealed he thought the former Spurs star would need more time to come back and play in England.

He also described a potential summer Eriksen return as a potential ‘good opportunity for me and him and the club’ after the pair won the Serie A title together last season.

Conte said (StadiuMastro): “No, honestly we didn’t talk about [re-signing him]. I am surprised about this situation.

“I thought he needed more time to come back, to play in England. For Tottenham, he is part of the story and to come back here could be a good opportunity for me and him and the club.

“But now he’s signed for Brentford only for six months, we will see what happens. I met him on Sunday, it was good to speak with him and see him with his family, and I will be the first person to be very happy to see him on the pitch again.

“We spent a good time at Inter, we won the league and spent important seasons together. Wish him the best in the future. You don’t know what will happen. It would be good to have him again and work together.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

If Eriksen can get back to full fitness and compete at a high level in the Premier League, a Spurs return makes perfect sense. Tottenham need a creative midfielder and Eriksen already has roots at the club. Fingers crossed this all falls into place.
