Some Tottenham fans on social media are angry at Jose Mourinho for ruining Gareth Bale’s homecoming after the Welshman’s agent Jonathan Barnett admitted the winger had fundamental disagreements with the Portuguese coach.
Bale’s return to Tottenham did not prove to be the fairytale Spurs fans would have hoped as the winger struggled to get a regular run in the side under Mourinho.
The returning superstar still demonstrated his quality in the final third when opportunities came his way, eventually finishing the season with 16 goals in all competitions.
However, all was clearly not well behind the scenes, with Mourinho even publicly criticising the 32-year-old for an Instagram post back in February.
It was only after Mourinho was replaced by Ryan Mason that Bale got a consistent run in the Tottenham side.
When asked about Bale’s relationship with Mourinho, Barnett told The Mirror: “At Spurs, there wasn’t a fall out. I just think they didn’t see football the same way – I’m being very diplomatic here.
“Let’s just say it wasn’t the best return to a club in history.”

Some Spurs fans on social media have now suggested that Bale’s return might have gone a lot better under a different head coach. A few even called for the Real Madrid man to return to N17 in the future.

Mourinho and Bale was never really a good fit given what we know Jose expects of his attacking players off the ball. There is certainly an element of ‘what if’ about Bale’s return to Spurs but that ship has now clearly sailed. There would be little to gain for anyone from the 32-year-old returning to North London again.
