‘Common ambition’ – Director reveals more talks with take place with Spurs after January transfer

Djurgardens IF sporting director Bosse Andersson has told Fotbollskanalen that the Swedish side will soon hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur over arranging a pre-season friendly next summer following the agreement that was struck for the transfer of Lucas Bergvall.

Tottenham secured Bergvall’s services on deadline day in January, with the midfielder set to arrive at the North London club ahead of the start of next season.

The North London club’s technical director Johan Lange admitted to the club’s official channel last week that there is plenty of excitement at Hotspur Way about the teenage starlet, who has set the Allsvenskan alight this season.

Pre-season friendly on the cards for Spurs vs Djurgardens

Fotbollskanalen have now revealed that as a part of the agreement, Tottenham could play a friendly against Djurgardens in Sweden before the start of next season.

The outlet explains that the details of that potential arrangement were revealed during the club’s meeting with their members on Monday.

The publication goes on to quote Andersson as saying about a friendly with Spurs: “It’s clear this wouldn’t have happened if Lucas hadn’t gone there. Both clubs have a common ambition to fulfil it and try to plan it.

“It’s not very common for English teams to come to Stockholm. There is a mutual respect for that. Tottenham know that there’s a lot of interest in Sweden and Scandinavia, so they are completely on board with the idea.”

The Djurgardens director revealed that the club officials will soon travel to London to discuss the details of their agreement with Spurs.

He added: “We have an ambition that Tottenham will come here and play against Djurgarden. It’s hard to get dates together and all that stuff, but our ambition is that.

“We’ll go over to Tottenham and discuss the matter, but both clubs have the ambition to implement it. You shouldn’t expect it to happen this summer, but it’ll happen within the next few years.”

This is quite a similar compromise to the one Tottenham offered to Shakhtar Donetsk for Manor Solomon last summer, with the Ukrainian side playing Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last pre-season.

Perhaps this agreement would have been a factor in helping Spurs edge out Barcelona in the race for Lucas Bergvall.
