‘Completed’ – Journalist reveals Atalanta have signed Romero replacement

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Atalanta have now completed a deal to sign Juventus centre-back Merih Demiral, who will become Cristian Romero’s replacement.

Romero is set to join Tottenham Hotspur this summer, becoming the club’s third senior signing under Fabio Paratici after Pierluigi Gollini and Bryan Gil.

Romano confirmed that Demiral was on his way to Atalanta, even adding that he will indeed be Romero’s replacement. The Demiral signing will reportedly be a loan with an option to buy, with personal terms already agreed.

It was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio earlier this week that Atalanta wanted to stall the Romero sale until they could find a suitable replacement for the Argentine.

If Fabrizio Romano is to be believed, it appears that they have done just that with Merih Demiral.

Spurs Web Opinion:

What a great deal for all involved… apart from Juventus. The Italian giants lost a great player in Romero for a low price, saw Atalanta triple his value, then sold a great up-and-coming talent in Demiral to the very same team. Great for Spurs though!
