‘Complicated’ – Italian news outlet reviews Ndombele’s start on loan at Napoli

Napoli Piu have revealed that Tanguy Ndombele’s loan spell at Naples has not begun in an ideal fashion, with the midfielder failing to take the chances that have come his way so far.

Ndombele found the back of the net in his unofficial debut for Napoli following his loan move from Tottenham during the summer but the midfielder has struggled to make an impression in Serie A so far.

His only start came in the 1-1 draw at Lecce last week but the on-loan Spurs man was hooked at half-time after an under-par display (Transfermarkt).

Napoli Piu have now described Ndombele’s start to life at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium as ‘complicated’ and add that he has ‘so far, failed’ to make the most of the opportunities Luciano Spalletti has handed him.

The publication states that the 25-year-old ‘seems a distant relative’ of the player who Tottenham signed for big money from Lyon back in 2019.

It is suggested that Ndombele’s lacklustre start in Naples could be down to the fact that he has not had a proper pre-season.

However, the report adds that Spalletti ‘believes in the midfielder’ and feels that ‘continuity and trust’ will solve all Frenchman’s issues over the long run.

Spurs Web Opinion

This loan move is, in many ways, the last chance saloon for Ndombele if he still wishes to have a career at the top level.

If he has another underwhelming spell, as he did at Lyon last season, I do not see clubs from the top five leagues being prepared to take a gamble on the 25-year-old.

Like Dele, the Frenchman could end up in Turkey in a year’s time if he struggles at Naples.
