‘Composure at its finest’ – Ryan Sessegnon lauds one Spurs teammate

Ryan Sessegnon has heaped praise on Rodrigo Bentancur for the composure the midfielder showed when the ball dropped to him in the box in stoppage time at the Vitality Stadium.

Tottenham were staring down the barrel of a third straight loss in the Premier League on Saturday when Bournemouth took a 2-0 lead at the start of the second half.

However, the away side mustered a brilliant response and put the Cherries backline under pressure, aided by the substitutions that Antonio Conte made.

Bentancur, who came on for Yves Bissouma just before the hour mark, arguably had the biggest impact on the game as the Uruguayan not only won most of his duals in midfield to help the Lilywhites retain possession but also showcased his passing range.

It was fitting that the former Juve man scored the match-winner in stoppage time to help Spurs seal a dramatic comeback.

Bentancur’s initial header from Son Heung-min’s corner kick was blocked and when the ball fell back to his feet, he calmly guided it into the roof of the net.

Sessegnon insisted that he had no doubts the midfielder would score when the ball fell to his feet.

When asked about Bentancur’s finish, the 22-year-old told Spurs Play: “Composure at its finest. He’s a very composed player and I had no doubts when he was stood up there to guide it into the goal.”

Eric Dier hit the nail on the head earlier this season when he said that Tottenham play well when Bentancur plays well. Given the ability that the 25-year-old possesses, he should really take games by the scruff of the neck more often and play with the sort of authority that he did on Saturday.
