‘Confident’ – Fabrizio Romano reveals club are in ‘advanced talks’ for Spurs man

Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter to reveal that Tottenham Hotspur are holding advanced talks with Sevilla over a loan deal for Bryan Gil until the end of the season.

The negotiations do not include an option for the La Liga outfit to sign the winger on a permanent basis, however, talks between the two clubs are progressing and Sevilla are confident of securing his signature before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli has previously spoken publicly of his desire to land the 21-year-old for the rest of the campaign (Estadio Deportivo) with his side currently in thirteenth place in the Spanish top flight.

Gil has found first-team opportunities hard to come by in north London and made a late five minute cameo for Antonio Conte’s side in their 3-0 FA Cup win against Preston North End on Saturday night (transfermarkt).

The Spanish international started his career at Sevilla before he completed a move to Tottenham in July 2021 with Erik Lamela heading to the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan in a swap-plus-cash deal.

With Arnaut Danjuma having joined Tottenham last week, Gil’s chances of featuring frequently have taken a further hit and a loan switch back to Spain is probably in the best interests of the player and the club.

Leaving Gil rot at Spurs for the next six months makes absolutely no sense, he should be playing regularly at this point if either to come back and have a bigger role in the squad or to maximise any sale price. The nothingness does literally nothing for either party.
