‘Considering replacements’ – Journalist reveals what he has heard about Spurs’ managerial situation

Duncan Castles has provided an update on Tottenham Hotspur potentially looking to replacing Nuno Espirito Santo as their head coach.

The Portuguese, who left Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season was appointed as Jose Mourinho’s successor in North London 72 days after Daniel Levy decided to part company with the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager (Independent).

During those 72 days, Tottenham fans experienced a managerial merry-go-round with a host of names being linked with the vacant hot seat including Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca, Erik ten Hag, Roberto Martinez and Gennaro Gattuso (BBC).

Prior to the international break, Nuno saw his side win their opening three Premier League games of the season, scooping August’s Manager of the Month award in the process but has since come under pressure having lost three top flight matches against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal in convincing fashion (Evening Standard).

Castles has claimed that Spurs are already considering replacements, while Nuno is also unhappy at the current situation.

He told the Transfer Window Podcast: “The information I have is that Tottenham are already considering replacements for Nuno and also that this isn’t necessarily a unilateral process in that Nuno, I’m told’ also isn’t happy with his circumstances at Tottenham, it’s not what he expected when he came into the club, so there is discontent on both sides there. I think a lot of this is predictable,”

Fabio Paratici could be left with egg on his face if the Nuno appointment fails, having been the biggest advocate to bring in the former Wolves man ahead of the likes of Paulo Fonseca.

Spurs fans will be looking more towards Sunday for a reaction when they host Aston Villa rather than this evening’s match against NS Mura, who with the greatest respect, should not pose a similar threat.
