Conte claims it would be ‘foolish’ to ‘spend a lot of money suddenly’ at Spurs

Antonio Conte has suggested it would be foolish to suddenly spend a lot of money on a load of different players at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have already confirmed six new signings this summer in the form of Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, and Djed Spence – while Destiny Udogie is said to be just around the corner (Fabrizio Romano).

After ENIC invested £150m into Tottenham ahead of the summer transfer window, Daniel Levy reportedly approved the withdrawal of £100m to put towards new signings (Football London).

Conte has claimed that Spurs are doing things in the right way and with common sense in order to improve, while remaining within the politics of the club.

This comes after reports indicated that Spurs will concentrate on offloading unwanted players and potentially signing a new playmaker and centre-back before the transfer window shuts (Evening Standard).

Conte said in his press conference today (Football London): “We improved in this way but I know I can’t have everything quickly but it would be foolish to ask for a lot of players and spend a lot of money.

“We’re doing the right things with common sense, not to spend the money on many players. Also, this is not the politics of the club, I understand this. We have to go in the right way, doing the right things.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I think Conte appreciates he is being backed at Tottenham, but he also understands you can’t just go out and buy a load of £50m stars in the current climate, especially when Spurs are finding it hard to shift players. But everything points towards him viewing this as a process, perhaps across a few years,
