Conte claims one Tottenham star is improving with and without the ball

Antonio Conte has claimed that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is improving with and without the ball in the centre of the Tottenham engine room.

The Danish midfielder has forged a strong partnership with Rodrigo Bentancur ever since the former Juventus man was signed in the January transfer window.

The two lined up together again against Nottingham Forest this week and put in a typically industrious display, while still finding some killer balls through the lines to the front three.

Hojbjerg, in particular, has impressed over the past few fixtures, despite the midfielder often dividing opinion among the Tottenham fanbase.

However, when this idea was put to Conte himself, the Spurs head coach revealed there was no dividing opinion inside his head as he has been impressed with Hojbjerg’s improvements both on and off the ball.

The Denmark star was even recently linked with a potential move to Real Madrid after Los Blancos lost Casemiro to Man United (Telegraph), but it appears Conte is a huge fan of the midfield general.

He said (Jack Pitt-Brooke): “For us, he is a really important player. I am seeing a great improvement with the ball, without the ball, in position. Pierre doesn’t divide my head! I am really happy with his performance.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I feel like holding midfielders are always underrated by people who don’t watch the game with an open mind. Because they don’t score many goals, don’t do too many eye-catching tricks, and don’t come up with goal-saving tackles every game, people like to criticise them. In truth, Hojbjerg is one of the most consistent and effective Spurs players.
