Conte hints he will play ‘four strikers’ in ‘many games’ this season at Spurs

Antonio Conte has praised the impact Richarlison has made since arriving at Tottenham, stating that the Brazilian has added a ‘nasty’ streak to the squad.

Richarlison is, by far, the most expensive of the seven signings Spurs have made so far this summer, with the North London club agreeing on a fee of £60m including add-ons with Everton for the 25-year-old (Sky Sports).

The versatile forward can play across the front three but certainly has his work cut out to force himself into Tottenham’s starting eleven, with Dejan Kulusevski establishing himself as a key player alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min since arriving in January.

However, Conte has insisted that he could decide to deploy all four of his forwards at the same time this season.

The Spurs head coach told Football.London: “For sure Richy is a player that made us focused, nasty. He’s a player I like. He’s always into the training session with his mind. For us, I think this is a good sign.

“We are working also on the tactical aspect because the season will be long and there are many games that we have to play also with four strikers.”

The Italian admitted that the four forwards are capable of doing the work required off the ball to ensure that the team’s defensive solidity is not compromised.

Conte added: “We have to try to improve because for me to play with four strikers can become a good option during the game and to start some games.

“The most important thing is that the four strikers want to run and to make sacrifices without the ball. This is very important, but I have players with good stamina, with good quality and we are working also on this aspect.”

Richarlison and Kulusevski are certainly capable of doing the required defensive work required off the ball. However, should Conte decide to play all four forwards together, he would probably have to abandon his back three and move to a 4-2-2-2, with Kulu and Richy playing behind Kane and Son.
