Conte makes plea to Spurs fans following ‘amazing’ atmosphere against Arsenal

Antonio Conte has praised the atmosphere the home fans created at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Arsenal, and urged the Spurs faithful to recreate it against Burnley.

Although Arsenal started on the front foot, Spurs gained control of the game after the first ten minutes and were building up ahead of steam when they were awarded a penalty for Cedric Soares’ push on Son Heung-min.

The match turned into a one-sided affair after Harry Kane gave the Lilywhites the lead from the spot, with Rob Holding’s sending off not long after making the home side’s task a lot easier.

Spurs added a second through Kane soon after the sending off while Son netted at the start of the second half to put the result beyond doubt.

The last thirty minutes of the game resembled a training session, and Conte admitted that he was pleased with the way his side handled the occasion.

When asked if the fixture being postponed earlier in the season served as extra motivation to his players, the Italian told Football.London: “It’s not easy because you have to pay great attention to find a good balance.

“If you push too much your players, you risk an opposite answer.

“Also in this aspect, in six months and a half we worked step by step. Also for me, it was important to know my players much better and them to know me much better, and understand sometimes when I’m angry, why I’m angry.

“Don’t forget the defeat against Burnley made me very angry, if you remember.”

Conte admitted that he was pleased with how the team has grown mentally and urged the fans to push the side against Burnley on Sunday.

He added: “Now, they’re improving in many aspects. Not only on the pitch but mentally they are becoming strong. But now we’re talking to tell a lot of positive things but on Sunday we have to win.

“So I ask to our fans to recreate this atmosphere because tonight it was amazing. The fans scored one goal. We scored two and one for our fans.

“It’ll be important on Sunday to stay together and create again this atmosphere. We need to play this game altogether because it won’t be easy. It’ll be a sporting war, clearly.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte is not just playing lip service to the fans as almost everyone who was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday were raving about the atmosphere.

Gary Neville even said it was the best atmosphere he has experienced in any Premier League ground across this season (Gary Neville podcast).

Yesterday shows that our stadium can be extremely intimidating for the opposition teams to deal with when our fans find their voice.
