Conte opens up on Skipp injury troubles in apparent dig at Spurs medical team

Antonio Conte has given further information on Oliver Skipp after ruling the midfielder out of a possible return against Everton in the Premier League on Monday.

The Spurs boss revealed that Skipp is still struggling with a pain in his groin and is fighting to recover as soon as he can. He also added that Skipp could have recovered earlier but ‘maybe something was wrong and now we have to wait’.

Skipp has missed Tottenham’s last seven fixtures across all competitions after becoming an important part of Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte’s starting XIs in North London (TransferMarkt).

Conte went on to make some rather eyebrow-raising comments about the Tottenham medical department, claiming it was ‘too easy’ for them to not speak about or explain players’ injuries.

He even suggested that medical teams should hold press conferences every two weeks or so to explain the current injury situation at the club.

Conte said (Football London): “He’s [Skipp] still not ready. Still having a problem with a groin pain. He’s fighting and he could recover before but maybe something was wrong and now we have to wait.”

He added: “It’s a pity. I think in England that sometimes you should have a conference with the medical department. It’s too easy for the doctors to work here. They don’t speak and they don’t explain.

“It could be good one day and then in two weeks to have a press conference with the medical department to explain about this situation with the players, about the situation that they are trying to take care of the players. It’s too easy for the medical department.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It sounds like Conte is not too happy with the communication from his medical team at Tottenham, particularly surrounding the Skipp injury. Having a medical representative included in Conte’s pressers for an injury round-up would certainly be interesting.
