Despite having just four points on the board from their first three Champions League group games, Antonio Conte has claimed the Lilywhites need to be ‘confident’ of progressing to the knockout stages.

Tottenham have now played all three of their group stage opponents once, having beaten Marseille at home, lost away at Sporting Lisbon, and played out a 0-0 draw at Frankfurt yesterday.

The top two spots in Group D now look up for grabs, especially after Marseille thrashed Sporting 4-1 at home yesterday.

Spurs are tied on four points with Eintracht after yesterday’s result and occupy second place in the table owing to their superior goal difference.

The Lilywhites now have two back-to-back home fixtures in the competition, and Conte insisted that his side have to make home advantage count and try to seal their passage to the next round before they travel away to Marseille for the final matchday.

When asked if he believes Tottenham will qualify from the group, the 53-year-old told Football.London: “Yeah but we need to be confident.

“At the start, before the start of the competition you asked me which were my thoughts about the group and I said there is a lot of balance in this group.

“In every game, you can get points but you can lose points. Until the last game, we don’t know what happens, in my opinion. For sure now we have two games at home.

“Like today in our stadium, there is an amazing atmosphere. Our fans have to play a big role in these two games because for sure we are going to play for qualification in the next two games.”

It will not be ideal for Spurs to head into the final match away at Marseille with qualification still on the line. So, we need to get six points from the clashes against Eintracht and Sporting at home in order give ourselves a bit of a cushion heading into the clash in France.
