Conte reveals he has spoken to Lucas Moura about change of position this season

Antonio Conte has revealed that he has spoken to Lucas Moura about the potential of playing at right-wing-back this season.

The Brazilian winger covered at wing-back for the final period against Team K-League last week, before starting against Sevilla today in the same role.

Lucas not only added a zip to attack down the right at times, but he was also consistently switched on defensively too, even using his great leap to win headers in his own box.

Conte, who has a track record of turning wingers into wing-backs, including Ivan Perisic and Victor Moses, has now revealed he has spoken to Moura about a similar transition.

The Italian boss also added that he is happy with Moura’s commitment to the team, as well as his ability to play across a number of different positions.

Tottenham already have Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal at right-wing-back in the current squad, while a Djed Spence announcement is rumoured to be close (Fabrizio Romano).

Conte said (Football London): “I spoke to Lucas and I think this could be a good option. In the past I made Perisic in this position. Before a winger and to become a wing-back.

“He has the quality. The most important thing is the player has to be 100% ready to do it, but he is available for us. Lucas can play in many roles. I’m very happy for his commitment and tonight I think he played a good game.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

This is a very interesting comment. I would assume that one of Doherty or Emerson will be put up for sale this summer if Conte is looking at Moura as an option. It would seem strange to need four different options at right-wing-back.
