Conte reveals how many Tottenham players trained ahead of Leicester match this week

Antonio Conte has revealed that he held a training session with 16 players on Wednesday morning ahead of Thursday evening’s trip to Leicester.

Tottenham have been slowly recovering from an outbreak of Covid-19 in the camp.

The outbreak saw the club’s Premier League clash at Brighton postponed at the weekend, after last Thursday’s final Europa Conference League group match against Rennes was also called off.

However, the situation is said to be improving with cases beginning to slow down and a number of Spurs first-team players returning to training after the closure of part of the club’s Hotspur Way facility.

As such, the improvement means there is now an expectation that Spurs will be able to fulfil their trip to Leicester on Thursday evening.

Conte has since confirmed that Spurs could not hold a single training session for three consecutive days last week, but now has a growing selection of players returning at his disposal.

In a press conference, he said (via Football.London): “We had Thursday, Friday and Saturday without sessions. Sunday we started again to work with not many players, because we also had problems with U23s.

“We started with 13/14 players and today had training with 16 players and more young players.”

The situation is improving which is a very good thing, but it will likely take a couple of weeks for the players to get back to a high level like before. However, the disruption is frustrating given Conte had been establishing a good flow with the players.
