Conte reveals one new Spurs signing is ‘struggling with the tactical aspect’

Antonio Conte has revealed that Yves Bissouma is struggling with the tactical aspect of his system at Tottenham, following the midfielder’s transfer from Brighton this summer.

Bissouma has made six appearances for Spurs across all competitions so far this season, but five of them involved under 12 minutes on the pitch off the bench (TransferMarkt).

The former Brighton man’s one start for the Lilywhites came in the Premier League clash away to West Ham, when Rodrigo Bentancur was unavailable following a concussion.

Conte has often opted for his tried-and-tested duo of Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the centre of the park this season, carrying on from their fruitful partnership during the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Italian has now revealed that he has been protecting Bissouma by not starting him, adding that the player is yet to fully adapt to his system in North London.

He said (Football London): “There are players like Richarlison, who went into the team quickly, Lenglet was the same, Perisic, the only player struggling with the tactical aspect is Bissouma.

“I try to take the best decision because I want to protect the player. When we play 12 games in one month, you need to be ready because I need all my players.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Bissouma was a world-class signing for Spurs in the summer, but that doesn’t mean he has to walk into the starting XI. The whole point of strengthening the squad is so that Conte can pick the best options for each game. At the moment, Bissouma isn’t up to speed, but he will be eventually.
