Antonio Conte provides a positive Spurs injury update on Cristian Romero

Antonio Conte has revealed that Steven Bergwijn is back in contention for Tottenham’s clash against Leicester City this evening but admitted that Eric Dier and Cristian Romero are still unavailable.

Tottenham have been without quite a few first-team regulars over recent weeks due to injury.

Romero has been out of action since picking up a hamstring injury back in November but the Argentine did take to social media last week to reveal that he is back training with his Spurs teammates.

Son Heung-min is also with a long-term injury while the likes of Eric Dier, Steven Bergwijn and Sergio Reguilon also missed the second leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal against Chelsea last Wednesday.

Conte has admitted that Dier and Romero remain out of action for Spurs’ trip to the King Power Stadium, with the Spurs boss revealing that the Argentine is expected to be back after the international break.

The Italian said (via Alasdair Gold): “Cristian is improving and he’s working with us. For sure we have to try to respect the right time for his recovery. He had a serious injury.

“Now he’s very close to coming back with us and being available for games. For sure, after the international break, he’ll be available.

“Bergwijn has recovered from his calf injury and was already in the squad against Arsenal. For Eric [Dier], we have to wait a bit, and also have a bit of patience, and not take a risk.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Without a natural leader like Dier or Romero at the back, our defence is a matter of concern. I expect Sanchez to play as the central sweeper with Tanganga and Davies on either side of him. While it would be good to see Rodon get a chance, it does not appear as if Conte rates the Welshman highly.
