Conte reveals two things from Daniel Levy that convinced him to join Spurs

Antonio Conte has revealed Daniel Levy’s vision and ‘desire to excel’ was enough to convince him to join Tottenham in the middle of the season.

Spurs chased the Italian over the summer as the club’s replacement for Jose Mourinho but were unsuccessful in their attempts to do so, and eventually landed at the door of Nuno Espirito Santo instead.

However, the Portuguese coach spent just four months in charge in N17 after being sacked following an unconvincing spell of form, which prompted Spurs chiefs to regroup and target Conte once again.

Spurs finally got their man at the second time of asking in early November, just a handful of months after their initial attempt to court him.

Conte recently conceded that he turned down Spurs’ initial approach as he was still feeling raw from his departure from Inter Milan that same summer.

But the former Chelsea boss has now admitted that he took the plunge to join the club in the end thanks to Spurs chairman Levy’s powers of persuasion, who sold the club’s huge ambition to him.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport (via Fabrizio Romano): “When Daniel Levy first called me in June, I said no because I wasn’t ready. But when Levy came back few weeks ago, he convinced me by showing that he wanted me at all costs. In his new Tottenham project I felt the ‘vision’ – a key word to me.

He added: “I loved the ambition and desire to ‘excel’ showed by Tottenham ownership. The stadium is a jewel of modernity and comfort, costing one billion euros; but the training ground leaves you speechless. It’s the best I’ve ever seen, no doubt.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs are an ambitious club, as we have seen with their off-pitch ventures, but now it is time for that to translate onto the pitch.

With Conte here, he can be the one to do that, and hopefully, Levy has seen that he can’t cut corners anymore in terms of neglecting the squad.
