Conte reveals why he is ‘worried’ ahead of Spurs clash against Man City

Antonio Conte has admitted that he is worried ahead of the clash against Manchester City as Pep Guardiola’s men will have had one more day to recover.

Despite not putting in an accomplished performance on Wednesday, Tottenham got their Champions League campaign off to a winning start, with Richalison’s brace helping the home side to a 2-0 win against Marseille after the Ligue 1 side had a man sent off.

Tottenham’s focus now shifts to Saturday, with the Lilywhites facing their biggest test of the season yet in the form of a trip to the Etihad Stadium.

City and Spurs are the only two Premier League sides who remain unbeaten this season and Conte will be hoping that his side can produce a similar performance to the one they managed back in February against the league champions.

However, the Tottenham head coach admitted that the fixtures have not been kind to his side ahead of the big game on Saturday.

When asked about Richarlison delivering for Spurs against Marseille, Conte told BT Sport: “Richy is in good form now for sure but I’m a little bit worried because we have to play in two days against City. And then after two days, we have to go again in the Champions League.

“I think now we have to rest and try to recover well. City played yesterday. One day more to rest. In my opinion, that’s very important. But these are the fixtures and this time, we accept this. These fixtures, for sure, didn’t help us.”

It is bewildering why the game against City was not scheduled on a Sunday, given that we played on Wednesday.

The difference between having 48 hours and 72 hours to recover, could be consequential, particularly considering that we had to work hard in the second half against Marseille while City effectively had a training session at Seville after racing into a lead.
