Conte reveals why Tanganga had surgery and how long Sessegnon could be missing

Antonio Conte has revealed that Ryan Sessegnon could be out injured for four weeks before he is able to start training with the first-team again.

The Spurs boss claimed they would have to wait around a month before Sessegnon could have another scan on his injury, then he may be able to return.

He also elaborated on the injury to Japhet Tanganga, with Tottenham revealing this morning that the defender had undergone surgery on his right knee.

Conte insists the medical department tried until the very end to find a solution that would not require surgery, but it turned out to be the best course of action. He added that Tanganga would be ready for the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

This injury news comes as a big blow to Conte as Spurs approach the tail-end of the season, with Tanganga and Sessegnon representing key defensive cover.

On the duo, Conte said (Football London): “For Japh, the medical department tried until the end to find the solution but I think in the end it was the best solution for Japh and the doctors to have this surgery to clean his knee. He’ll be ready next season.

“About Ryan, we’re waiting four weeks to have another scan and then if everything is OK he’ll restart training sessions with us.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Spurs can make do without Tanganga for the time being as Doherty has stepped up and there is cover in the centre of defence. However, Sessegnon is a huge blow as he was just coming into form and Spurs only have Reguilon at left-wing-back now.
