Conte says it is a ‘privilege’ to manage ‘vital’ and ‘reliable’ Spurs defender

During his press conference yesterday, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte described defender Ben Davies as a ‘vital’ member of his squad.

Davies is one of the longest-serving players in the current Tottenham squad, having joined the club way back in the summer of 2014.

He has now racked up 304 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring eight goals and registering 24 assists during that time (Transfermarkt).

The Welshman has proven to be a valuable asset for Spurs under Antonio Conte’s reign, having adapted to a left-sided centre-back role since the Italian’s arrival at the club.

This season has been a frustrating one for the North London side, but Davies has been a dependable and sturdy presence in the heart of the defence.

He has two goals and two assists in 33 appearances this year (Transfermarkt) and has largely kept Clement Lenglet out of the side.

Conte is clearly a fan of the 29-year-old, and the manager had high praise for Davies in his press conference ahead of the weekend’s action.

He told Football.London: “These type of players are vital for every manager.

“Ben is a player that is showing always a great reliability and he’s a player that’s always focused. He always has the right desire.”

On what Davies brings to the table, Conte added: “You know Ben will finish the game, he will finish with his commitment top.

“You can win or lose but you know Ben is a reliable player.

“It’s a privilege for every manager to have in his squad.”

Ben Davies must be every manager’s dream to have in the squad.

He’s a model professional, a consistent and passionate player, and someone who just quietly gets on with his job at all times.

He’s versatile, too, and has proven this season that he is a valuable member of the squad.
