Contrasting reports emerge about Spurs’ pursuit of 31-year-old striker

With just a few hours left until the January transfer window shuts, some Spurs fans are quite concerned to see the side not having signed a striker as of yet.

With Kane being out until April, Spurs were said to be on the lookout for a number 9 this month but Jose Mourinho has now admitted that no new deal in likely to be done before the window shuts (Football.London).

Despite Mourinho’s assertions to the contrary, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reports that the Lilywhites are still scrambling to sign a striker before the 11 pm deadline.

The report asserted that Spurs were still attempting to sign Leicester striker Islam Silmani on loan before the end of the day after moves for Olivier Giroud and Willian Jose collapsed.

However, French publication Nice-Matin (as translated and relayed by GFFN) now report that the 31-year-old is set to stay with Monaco until the end of the season.

The report confirmed that the Algerian international trained with the Ligue 1 side today and that no deal has been agreed.

With Slimani, Jose and Giroud all looking unlikely, it looks like Tottenham will not be signing a striker till the summer. While it is understandable if the club decided not to sign someone just for the sake of it, it is difficult to see why they couldn’t have done at least a loan deal until the end of the season just to give us an extra body in the position.
