‘Crazy’ – Former Spurs and Arsenal star gives his take on letting Man City win the league

William Gallas has said that while he understands why Spurs fans want to see their side lose against Manchester City, he insisted that the Tottenham players will only be thinking about winning the game.

Based on what we have seen from social media, it is clear that barely any Tottenham fans want to see their side take points against City this evening.

The overwhelming majority appear to prefer losing to City and stopping Arsenal from winning the Premier League title, even if it meant that a loss would potentially cost Spurs a place in next season’s Champions League.

Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that his players will try their hardest to get three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon, with the Australian even questioning the assertion that the majority of Spurs fans do not win to win this evening (Sky Sports).

William Gallas loves the craziness of football fans

Gallas pointed out that irrespective of what the supporters feel, the Tottenham players will be trying their hardest to pick up a result once they cross that white line.

The Frenchman told Genting Casino: “As a former player, purposely losing a game never crossed my mind. We know Tottenham are big rivals with Arsenal, but even that rivalry won’t change the players’ minds. It’s the fans who will think about it, I can understand that.

“After Liverpool’s draw against Aston Villa last night Tottenham still have hope for the Champions League so the players’ mindset won’t change. We know the Tottenham fans are crazy, they would prefer to lose out on Champions League football by losing to Man City, just so they don’t see Arsenal lift the Premier League trophy.

“They are crazy, but that’s the beauty of football. But the Tottenham players are not born in North London, so their mentalities will be completely different.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that the Spurs players will be motivated to pick up all three points but the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be quite strange and that might filter through to the players and have an effect on their performance levels.
