Cristian Romero aims ‘disgraceful’ transfer dig at Tottenham after winter window closes

Tottenham have staggered through another transfer window, which has left everyone frustrated — especially Cristian Romero.

Spurs fans hoped for so much from the January transfer window, but between a few near-misses and big rumours, very little actually happened.

The signings of Conor Gallagher and Souza were all Lilywhites fans could cheer about as we went into deadline day. Clearly, that’s not enough to significantly strengthen Thomas Frank’s squad.

Frank promised big things for the summer, but that’s a long way off. Naturally, most people are growing impatient, and Cristian Romero is among that disgruntled crowd.

What Cristian Romero said about Tottenham on transfer deadline day

Taking to Instagram after Tottenham fought for a 2-2 draw with Man City on Sunday, the Spurs skipper took to Instagram to praise his colleagues and also to vent his frustrations.

He wrote: “Great effort from all my teammates yesterday. They were incredible. I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well. Especially as we only had 11 players available. Unbelievable but true and disgraceful.”

Romero even added a facepalm emoji to hammer home the message, before adding: “We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us.”

Spurs players are being let down by the board

With an incredibly high revenue stream and that supposed £150m investment from the board, it is fair to be unhappy with the fact the club simply hasn’t recruited well at all in January.

It’s already been a disappointing season for Spurs. While Champions League progress is something to celebrate, the Lilywhites are still in 14th place in the Premier League table and performances have been dire, to say the least.

As a caveat, Thomas Frank is struggling through another horrendous injury crisis right now, and the remaining players are being pushed to the limit. Surely, if the board are serious about actually competing among the Big Six and with the elite of Europe, they have to look at this situation and realise they have completely let the players and the manager down.
