Cristian Romero posts cheeky apology to Spurs fans after red card vs Man City

Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, Cristian Romero, has posted a cheeky apology to Spurs fans on Instagram after he saw red against Man City today.

Spurs were sitting deep to defend their 1-0 lead in the dying minutes of the game when Romero left a dangling leg to trip Jack Grealish, picking up a second yellow for the offence. His first booking came for a crunching challenge that was beyond late on Erling Haaland in the first half.

Tottenham were left with ten men for the final five minutes plus another five in added time, but the likes of Eric Dier, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez, Emerson Royal, and Ryan Sessegnon formed a solid back-five line to keep Pep Guardiola’s men at bay.

Believe it or not, this represented Romero’s first red card in the Premier League, although it was his second for Spurs after picking up two yellows in a Europa Conference League match.

The Argentine will now miss the match against Leicester City next weekend.

He took to Instagram to write: ‘Great game by all, impressive win. Let’s keep it going, Spurs. I’m sorry to leave the team with one less, but I didn’t get a red for a while’.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Romero giving it his all and getting a red was probably worth it, compared to him playing within himself and giving Man City too much room. It didn’t cost Spurs the win and one missed game against Leicester should be manageable.
