Cristian Romero has called for unity within the Tottenham Hotspur camp as they battle to stay in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham Hotspur have only made staying up in the Premier League more difficult for themselves, having lost their relegation six-pointer against Nottingham Forest 3-0.

That defeat now sees Tottenham drop to 17th place, a single point above West Ham United and two behind Forest.

With seven games left in the Premier League, each game is now crucial for Spurs in their bid to avoid the drop.

Cristian Romero speaks after Tottenham defeat to Nottingham Forest

After Sunday’s defeat, captain Cristian Romero was quick to take responsibility for Spurs’ performance.

However, dwelling too much on their loss will do little to improve the situation, making moving on vital.

Speaking to the official Tottenham channels, Romero once again addressed the fans, reflected on the performance and stressed the need for unity during this difficult spell.

He said, “It is a difficult day for everyone, but the first thing is to speak about the fans.

“Thank you for today, and always stay with us. Today, fantastic support, but apart from that, it is a bad day. Now, it is finished, and now the most important thing is to understand the situation.

“It is not easy, but the most important thing is to go to the national team and back here for the last seven finals.

“I promise to put 200 per cent, everyone.

“For me, it is not easy, but we will stay all together. It is a bad day, but it will go away.”

Speaking further about the game and the importance of key moments, Romero reflected on how the match unfolded, adding, “Yes, the start of the game, the first 45 minutes were good on the pitch. We did not concede anything.

“In the last minute of the game, we conceded a very sloppy goal, but now it is finished.

“It is a bad day, but the first thing for me is thank you.

“The fans are always with us, especially in this moment, but football sometimes is like this.

“Now, recovery, everyone will go to their national team, understand the situation and back here for the last seven finals.

“It is important to stay together, especially in this tough moment.”

Cristian Romero demands more from himself and his teammates

Tottenham will hope the fans do not lose hope or faith in this squad, as they still need all the support they can get.

Spurs still have three home games left this season and, if they can secure victories there, they could avoid the drop.

Speaking again about the fans and their role in helping the team through this period, Romero highlighted their importance and admitted the players must do more, stating: “No, it is incredible. It is incredible, especially in this moment, after this season. It is not good.

“Honestly, we take responsibility, but the fans, thank you. Every game, the stadium is brilliant. It is only about the players, about the staff. We need more, we need more, especially me first. In the last seven finals, we will go again.”
