Cristian Romero reacts after sealing permanent move to Tottenham

Cristian Romero has taken to social media to express his delight at sealing a permanent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Just 12 months on from Romero’s loan move from Atalanta, Spurs confirmed on Tuesday that they had finally made the deal permanent, with the centre-back signing a contract with the club until 2027.

According to reports, the clause that the North London club activated for the 24-year-old is worth £46.5m.

Spurs’ decision to seal the switch certainly did not come as a surprise considering Romero has settled extremely well in the Premier League, with Jamie Carragher even naming the defender as his signing of the season for the previous campaign (Sky Sports MNF).

After completing a permanent move to Tottenham, Romero took to social media to write: “Very happy to sign my permanence in @SpursOfficial. I’m sure we’re on the right track.. 2027.”

The centre-back has missed Tottenham’s last two games against Wolves and Nottingham Forest with an abductor injury.

However, according to The Evening Standard, Romero is expected to be part of Spurs’ matchday squad for their clash against West Ham United in the London Stadium this evening.

Given the inflated nature of transfer fees over the last couple of years, signing Romero for less than £50m is smart business from Spurs. Like the Rodigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski deals, this is another one that Fabio Paratici deserves a lot of credit for.
