Cristian Romero reveals all the things that have improved since Conte joined Spurs

Cristian Romero believes Antonio Conte has ‘consolidated’ Tottenham’s style of play but feels there is still room for improvements to be made.

Romero has been a key piece of the Spurs line-up since arriving at the club last summer, particularly after recovering from a lengthy layoff through injury earlier this term.

The Argentina international, 23, has forged a strong connection on the right of Eric Dier in a three-man defence, which has allowed him to showcase his aggressive style of defending.

His recent displays, which have seen him dominate the likes of Michail Antonio and Allan Saint-Maximin, have resurrected Spurs’ pursuit for a Champions League spot as they currently sit fourth in the Premier League.

Romero has hailed the way in which Conte has managed to turn around the club’s fortunes by highlighting the challenge of implementing his methods despite arriving mid-way through the campaign.

He told The Athletic: “Since he’s arrived, the morale in the squad and certainly among the fans has changed totally around. The morale and the spirit in the dressing room is totally improved.

“It’s tough for a manager coming in almost halfway through the season. So to turn things around 100 per cent in the way he would like is never easy.

“But I think he’s doing well, we’ve consolidated as a squad and as a team, and he’s got us playing pretty much how he wants us to.

“Tactically we’ve improved where we are on the field and that sort of thing. I think there are still things that need to be just tweaked, perfected.”

Romero has emerged as such an important player under Conte and has been one of a number of improving stars in his system in recent weeks.

The players have bought into what is being asked of them which has transitioned into positive results so, hopefully, that continues with a few big games remaining this season.
