Spurs lose the North London Derby at home again

Tottenham lost yet another home North London Derby yesterday afternoon, falling to a 1-0 defeat against Arsenal courtesy of a second-half corner nodded home by Gabriel.

This cemented a rather unenviable statistic for the N17 side – with Arsenal now winning more derbies at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium than Spurs ever have at the Emirates.

One player who was clearly unhappy after the final whistle was Cristian Romero, who took to X (Twitter) to retweet a rather controversial statement by Argentina journalist, Gaston Edul.

What did Cristian Romero say?

Gaston Edul tweeted after the derby defeat that Spurs were the only Premier League club that failed to lay on private jets for the players to return faster from international duty, implying that this was the reason for Tottenham’s fatigue against Arsenal.

He wrote on X (which Romero retweeted): “Tottenham lost to Arsenal again. They weren’t able to fight until the end because they weren’t across the details.

“It was the only Premier League club that made their international players return, on their own and without proper logistics, on the decision of the club’s leadership.

“They gave away the advantage because their players arrived with less rest than the others: Cuti Romero played with tiredness.”

Romero has since deleted his retweet, but took to X himself to post the following message to fans: “It hurts to lose a derby, but I have no doubt that we will turn this bad start to the season around. Let’s all be together @SpursOfficial, also at this moment. Thanks to all the fans for always supporting us.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

The ‘let’s all be together’ appears to be a reaction to his retweet. It seems Romero regretted calling the club out, or perhaps got a little telling off from someone.

If he really believes the club should be doing more to help players during international breaks, he should take that to the likes of Postecoglou and Levy, not social media.
