There has been an update on the race for Tottenham captain Cristian Romero after reports that Man United were preparing a bid.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Spurs and Romero could go their separate ways this summer.

It has been revealed that the relationship between the Tottenham captain and the club has become strained, with the Lilywhites having made up their minds to cash in on the defender.

In a shock development, Argentine journalist Gaston Edul reported a couple of days ago that Man United are preparing an offer for Romero as the Red Devils look to strengthen their defensive options after qualifying for the Champions League.

Man United are not actively pursuing Tottenham’s Cristian Romero

The possibility of the Argentine ending up at Old Trafford would be a strange sight for many Spurs fans, who may have expected the centre-back to move to Spain.

However, journalist Sam C has now taken to social media to deny the rumours regarding United’s interest in Romero, claiming the Red Devils have not made any approach for the Tottenham man.

In fact, he asserted that Michael Carrick’s side are not actively pursuing a central defender at this stage of the transfer window.

Where else could Romero end up this summer?

Spurs’ pursuit of Jan Paul Van Hecke following their signing of Marcos Senesi as a free agent is seen by many as proof that Romero’s time in N17 has run out.

Reports over recent weeks have indicated that the Tottenham captain’s preference is to join La Liga, with Atletico Madrid being long-term admirers of the World Cup winner.

Additionally, it has been widely reported that Barcelona have identified Romero as a ‘Plan B’ if they are not able to secure Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.
